The ‘2km from home’ tool now has a very handy ‘overlap’ feature

Software developer Dave Bolger has been roundly and rightly praised for his ‘2km from home’ tool that has served as a very useful guide during the different stages of lockdown.

Way back on Friday, March 27, Leo Varadkar announced that people shouldn’t travel further than 2km from home as Ireland upped its battle against the spread of Covid-19. That very weekend, over half a million people sought help from Dave Bolger’s ‘2 km from home’ tool which allowed users to find out what locations were within their 2km radius.

The tool has since evolved to take in the 5km rule and yesterday Dave announced a whole range of additional features including the ability to see where your 5km limit overlaps with your friends and family. This can be adjusted to the 2okm limit which is due to take hold on June 8 and you can have a look at examples below…

Multiple pins can be added if required and users can also share their location with pals. This handy tool just got handier and you can have a fiddle around with it via this link.

Kudos to Dave Bolger for the invention and you can keep up to date with him on Twitter here.
