The snug project – charity calendar raising money for ALONE

Sarah Finnan

12 pubs of Christmas

Ah, the 12 pubs of Christmas – one of the highlights of the festive season and while the annual tradition will have to take a year off this year, The Snug Project is still hoping to mark the occasion in some small way.

A charity calendar paying homage to the humble Irish pub snug, they make for great gifts particularly for those really missing cosy fireside pints… which is all of us. Featuring photos from Finn Richards’ snugs of Ireland series, the calendar includes images of snugs in pubs across Ireland with Cork, Clare, Kerry, Galway, Sligo, Tipperary and Dublin all making the cut.

Highlighting the true effect that the absence of the homely country pub can have in rural Irish communities, buying one can also double as one of your seasonal good deeds as all proceeds will go to ALONE – a national organisation that works with older people who are homeless, socially isolated, living in deprivation or in crisis.

Commenting on the idea behind the calendar, project creative director Ciana March said:

“On March 15th 2020, with the full force of a global pandemic upon us, the pubs of Ireland were forced to close. Their absence has been felt by many, but none more so than those who rely on pubs for social interaction.

“Through ‘The Snug Project’, we want to pay homage to the snug while also highlighting its social and cultural value within the community. We chose the charity ALONE as we know social isolation has affected older people, in particular, this year.”
