Let’s be real, the first thing we reach for after a sweaty workout isn’t usually a glass of pickle juice – we probably couldn’t think of anything less appetising.
However, it turns out that it actually has a lot of benefits.
When we do a sweaty workout, we lose a lot of fluids and electrolytes, but according to INSIDER, drinking a fresh glass of pickle juice could be the key to restoring these substances back into our body.
The salts, sugars and vinegar in the brine make it the perfect post-workout drink that helps to prevent dehydration.
Caleb Backe, a health and wellness expert told INSIDER: “Although it may sound odd, drinking the flavourful green juice may be one of the best post-workout snacks.”
Backe added that it helps to restore the body’s potassium and sodium levels, as well as other electrolytes. He noted that while the juice isn’t necessarily high in either potassium or sodium it transports its nutrients super fast and effectively.
As well as this, he said the high levels of sodium also help prevent muscle cramps.
It sounds pretty promising, so although we may be holding our nose, we might just have to give it a try.
