The results may surprise you.

As households across Ireland brace themselves for the impending Big Shop ahead of Christmas Day, one TikTok user has taken on the noble task of identifying the cheapest supermarket for your meat and poultry haul.

With fear inducing energy bills and the cost-of-living crisis in full swing, this info should come in handier than ever for anyone who’s been landed with the task of preparing the Christmas feast.

TikToker Clare Clarkson has compared the prices of turkey and ham at various supermarkets across Ireland, and the results are as follows:

  • Dunnes Stores came in as the cheapest place to buy your turkey and ham – €53.99 with a further €10 discount using vouchers, making it €43.99
  • Lidl – €52.98
  • Tesco – €70.00
  • Aldi – a surprising €89.98

On her page whatsgoingonireland, Clare answers questions about everything from fuel allowances to the SUSI Grant, covering topics that affect Irish people daily.

In the comments, some people observed that the video had compared the price of an organic turkey at Aldi with non-organic birds elsewhere, but Clare argued that these were the only 7kg offerings listed at the store.

Others suggested that people try their local butchers rather than supermarket chains when purchasing their Christmas meat, with one user writing: “See what your local butcher is charging. That’s ridiculous. I bet the farmers aren’t getting even half of that”.
