Houses, stone walls and fields on Inis Meain

Pack up the car and head for the island.

Particularly with the weather we’ve been having, I’m sure most of us have been daydreaming about a life by the sea, flaked out on one of the stunning Irish beaches we all see circulating on social media every time the sun comes out. Glistening blue seas, white sand and a herd of heifers thrown in for good measure. The dream scenario, by all accounts.

If you’re already mentally planning how to make this daydream your reality, you’re in luck.

Comhlacht Forbartha Inis Meáin are offering a family the chance to live on the island, free of charge, for the academic year. The offer is extended to families with school age children, providing the chance to live completely rent free in a “lovely modern house” on the middle Aran Island.

Amenities on the island include a preschool, a primary school and an award-winning secondary school. There’s also a new working hub and plenty of employment opportunities. It’s also a chance to be “completely immersed in the Irish language and culture”, and families with any level of Irish are encouraged to apply.

If this sounds like your dream come true, you can apply now by contacting the Comhlacht Forbartha Inis Meáin via their email address, [email protected]. Bí tapaidh though – applications close on the 10th of August.

For more information, see Comhlacht Forbartha’s website or Facebook page.
