Here’s when the Christmas lights will be switched on in Limerick

Brian Dillon

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Well, it is in our heads anyway.

And Limerick is just one of the cities in Ireland that is set to be lit up to create a magical festive atmosphere this winter.

On Sunday, November 17, Christmas will officially begin in Limerick.

Details surrounding the actual event (who will appear, etc.) are yet to be announced, but with the ceremony just under a month away, we are expecting an announcement regarding this to come very soon.

Last year, the #LightUpLimerick ceremony attracted massive crowds to O’Connell Street. So if Christmas in Limerick 2018 is anything to go by, we’re expecting a fairly magical few months in the city this year.

What we do know is the switching on of the Christmas lights will see Limerick come alive for Christmas. There is set to be a busy roster of seasonal events and family-friendly activities.

One of the highlights we are buzzing to see return is Limerick on ice, which is set to kick off on Thursday, November 28 and go on until Sunday, January 5.

There will also be a series of live music events, markets and of course, Santa’s Grotto.
