120 Boats Will Take Part In Search For Missing Rescue 116 Crewmen Today

More than 120 boats are expected to take part today in one of the biggest search operations Ireland has ever seen.

Irish Coast Guard crewmen Ciarán Smith and Paul Ormsby have been missing since Rescue 116 helicopter crashed off the coast of Mayo in the early hours of March 14.

Today, the Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation, Irish Fish Producers’ Organisation and Erris Inshore Fishermen’s Association are among the fleet hoping to recover the missing men.

The crash has already claimed the lives of Captain Dara Fitzpatrick and Captain Mark Duffy.

A massive area is set to be combed today in a bid to trace Smith and Ormsby, who were not located when the wreckage of the helicopter was lifted last week.
