A total of 26 counties have been issued with a status yellow thunderstorm warning which will be in effect until 9pm tonight.
The warnings were issued today with Met Éireann telling residents of Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Wicklow to expect ‘scattered thunderstorms developing through the afternoon and evening with heavy downpours and a risk of localised flooding.’
As well as that, those in Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry have been told that ‘thunderstorms may cause travel disruption in a few places.’
Finally, Longford, Cavan, Leitrim and Roscommon have all been issued with a status orange rainfall warning and with ‘intense thundery downpours today, in excess of 50mm, leading to surface flooding.’
