Argos recalls baby gates due to safety concerns

Darragh Murphy

Argos is recalling a number of baby gates due to “a potential safety issue.”

A recall has been issued on several Cuggl Safety Gates after testing discovered that some products may not meet all required safety standards.

Parents who have purchased one of the safety gates identified in the below image are urged to stop using it straight away and return it to an Argos store.

A full refund will be granted and no receipt is required.

An Argos spokesperson said: “We want to bring to your attention a potential safety issue with a number of Cuggl Safety Gates.

“Extensive testing has identified that some gates may fail to consistently meet all the required safety standards, resulting in the brackets or wooden slats breaking under high impact e.g. regular banging or kicking of the gate, failure of the auto-close feature and / or the gaps between metal bars being wider than the required standard, which may result in a child getting trapped.

“If you purchased one of the safety gates below under the brand Cuggl, STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY and return it to an Argos store for a full refund (by cash or debit card).

“You will not need a receipt. The Cuggl brand label can be seen on the gate, usually on the top panel.”
