Authorities have been briefed and a “severe weather response” is being prepared ahead of snowfalls next week

A “severe weather response” is being prepared as Ireland braces for potentially significant levels of snow from this Sunday onwards.

Appearing on RTÉ Radio One today, Evelyn Cusack of Met Éireann confirmed that they are on “high alert” with temperatures set to drop on Sunday before the arrival of snow showers on Monday.

As well as that, a storm system moving in from the Atlantic from Wednesday night “has the potential to cause some very inclement conditions,” Cusack said.

Virgin Media reports that the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) met yesterday to discuss the situation and are “preparing for a severe weather response if necessary.”

The same report says that we could see the same scenario as the Beast from the East and Storm Emma that brought massive snowfalls to Ireland in 2018.

Ireland’s Weather Channel has stated today that “coastal counties of Leinster and parts of the Midlands like North Wicklow, Dublin, Meath, Lough, Westmeath, Offaly, Laois and Longford are most at risk of seeing heavy snow during the first half of next week.”

Currently, Met Éireann’s forecast says that it will be ‘bitterly cold and wintry into next week’ and you can keep up to date via this link.
