18-year-old Mohamed Morei has been charged with murder of Japanese national Yosuke Sasaki in Dundalk yesterday morning.

There was a large media presence when the man arrived for a special sitting of Dundalk District Court just after 6.30pm. He was led by Gardaí into the courthouse while he was heckled by a large crowd which had gathered before his arrival. Some of those present shouted racial slurs at the suspect.

The below footage was taken by Sarah O’Connor of 3 News.

24-year-old Sasaki was walking to his place of work when he was attacked. He is said to have been living in Dundalk for over a year.

According to the Irish Daily Star’s Michael O’Toole, Morei didn’t reply to the charge and will now be remanded in custody. The court heard that there is an issue over the suspect’s nationality.

Two Irish men were injured in attacks which occurred at various locations in Dundalk.
