The new travel restrictions will be put in place from Monday.
An updated Green List for those travelling from Ireland to other EU nations has been issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and will be implemented from Monday September 21.
The current list, which will remain active until midnight on Sunday September 20, is as follows:
- Estonia
- Finland
- Greece
- Greenland
- Hungary
- Italy
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Norway
- Slovakia
If you are returning from these countries before Monday, then you may return to Ireland without having to restrict your movements. However, the new list as of Monday will see six of these countries removed and two added:
- Cyprus
- Finland
- Germany
- Iceland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Poland
While you may return from these countries without restrictions upon your arrival in Ireland, it is worth noting that these countries have their own restrictions in place for those travelling from Ireland and arriving in those countries. The government still advises against all non-essential travel, and reminds those travelling from Ireland to the updated Green List countries about the following:
“Citizens should be aware that countries continue to announce new restrictions on arrivals from abroad, including the requirement to quarantine on entry. This can include restrictions on arrivals from Ireland. The situation will continue to evolve quickly. Citizens who are considering travel to particular locations are advised to monitor news and information from the public authorities in their destination.”
Earlier this week it was suggested that Ireland would be abandoning the Green List entirely, but today’s update by the Department of Travel suggests that it will remain in place for now, will updates to the Green List to arrive every Monday, based on the latest data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
