Sarah

One of Ireland’s most well known tourist attractions, the terrifyingly amazingĀ Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge on the scenic Giants Causeway coast in the north, has been closed after a vandalism attempt.

The National Trust issued a statement today saying that the bridge “will be closed today and for the foreseeable future due to an act of vandalism overnight.Ā

“The safety of visitors and staff is of utmost importance and we are currently assessing the level of damage.”

RTE report that it is understood vandals tried to cut down the bridge, which hangs 30 metres above the sea.

The incident is being investigated by local police, but with one of the area’s top tourist attractions now closed for the summer season, the Trust is keen to point out that visitors can still enjoy the surrounding area.
