Clarity expected on hairdressers and weddings as NPHET meets today to discuss roadmap

James Fenton

NPHET is today considering if hairdressers should be allowed to reopen as part of phase 3 of the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Hairdressers are currently scheduled to open on July 20 but NPHET (the National Public Health Emergency Team) is meeting today to discuss whether this can be brought forward.

Last month, the Irish Hairdressers Federation published a list of recommendations which they feel would allow them to open safely earlier than July 20. Since then, the government has reduced the number of phases from five to four and have said they are hopeful that hairdressers will be allowed to open earlier.

NPHET is also working on providing clarity on weddings and the number of people that will be allowed to attend in the near future. Small weddings are currently expected to be allowed to take place from July 20.

Last week, shops around Ireland opened their doors for the first time since March and pubs are set to follow suit on June 29 with strict guidelines in place.
