Coffee Addict? You May Have To Pay A Little Bit Extra Soon

AmyBell

We already spend a ridiculous portion of our wages on our morning coffees, but it could be about to get even worse if we don’t get our acts together with reusable coffee cups.

The government is believed to be looking to introduce a levy on disposable coffee cups in the hopes of getting people to use reusable ones.

Environment Minister Denis Naughten said they are looking into the levy because of the high number of cups being thrown away each day.

The Irish Independent reported that approximately two million throwaway coffee cups are sent to landfill every day.

To combat this, your daily coffee dose could soon cost you an extra 10-15 cent per cup if you’re not bringing your own cup.

Talks are reported to have already begun with Insomnia and Supermacs about the proposed levy.

The levy would be similar to the plastic bag levy which was introduced 15 years ago.

It would be more beneficial to the environment – so maybe it’s time to make use of reusable cups?

What would you think of a levy like this?
