To raise funds for Ukrainian filmmakers.

That’s right, Connell’s signature GAA shorts are up for grabs, and they’re signed by the man himself. The auction will be held on Easy Live Auction, and aims to raise funds for Ukrainian filmmakers. This is how the auction is described onsite:

As part of a campaign organized by a group of independent Irish filmmakers (Filmmakers supporting Filmmakers), Element Pictures, and Director Lenny Abrahamson, donates signed GAA shorts, a signed script of the first episode and signed hardback book of scripts, featuring photography by Enda Bowe, from the multi award-winning series Normal People to a unique auction in support of film makers affected by the crisis in Ukraine.”

While it’s a shame that Connell’s chain isn’t being auctioned off, the GAA shorts are absolutely legendary. They spawned Gucci (as in, the Gucci) dupes, as well as countless social media memes.

There are also signed Normal People scripts being auctioned off. This auction hopes to raise money for filmmakers documenting the atrocities happening in Ukraine. Chief Programmer of the Ukrainian documentary filmmaker festival Docudays.ua, Darya Busel says this:

For the past four months, Ukrainian filmmakers are risking their lives and mental health to document the atrocities of war and let the world know about the war crimes, but not only that – they are gathering footage for future films. I’m sure the films that will emerge from the work that is being done now, will help us to understand this historical moment, when the whole world has to reconsider the principles on which it is built.”

If you want to be in with the chance to win Connell’s famous shorts, or support this worthy cause, you can register for the auction HERE.
