New measures are also expected to be announced this week regarding mandatory quarantine for passengers arriving into Ireland.

New regulations come into effect from today (Monday, February 1) which will see an increased fine given to those travelling to a port or airport with intent to leave Ireland without a reasonable excuse.

Under the new regulations, fines of up to €500 may be issued if they are found to be leaving Ireland without an essential reason.

The additional regulations were agreed upon by government last week, before passed by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.

New measures are also expected to be announced later this week regarding mandatory quarantine for those arriving into Ireland without a negative pre-departure covid-19 test.

At the moment, the advice for those arriving in Ireland is as follows (via the Citizen’s Information):

“The Government has announced a plan for mandatory self-isolation for people arriving in Ireland. New laws are needed before this can happen.”

There is also a specific section for passengers arriving from Great Britain, South Africa, and South America, as per the HSE:

“You should self-isolate (stay in your room) for 14 days from the date you arrived in Ireland. You should contact a GP to arrange a free COVID-19 test. You must complete the full 14 days of self-isolation, even if your test result is negative (COVID-19 not detected). You still need to complete 14 days of self-isolation, even if you have already had a private COVID-19 test with a negative (COVID-19 not detected) result.”
