Enniskillen pub behind viral Christmas ad launch fundraiser for the elderly

Charlie’s Bar, the Irish pub behind the viral Christmas ad highlighting the loneliness of older people during the holidays have launched a fundraiser for the charity Age NI.

The Enniskillen pub posted their take on a festive ad last week, gaining a huge reaction from viewers across the world, and leaving loads of us in tears.

The heartwarming video told the story of an older gentleman facing loneliness around the holidays, enjoying some company in Charlie’s Pub, with the caption reading: “Christmas can be such a joyful time for some and painfully hard for others.

“One things for sure – you’ll always receive a warm welcome when you walk through our doors. We will be open on Christmas Day, so if you are alone this festive season, drop in for a chat.”

The Fermanagh pub have now launched a GoFundMe for Age NI, a charity who provide care and support for the elderly community of Northern Ireland.

Since launching on Friday, December 1, the fundraiser has already raised £3,520 at the time of writing.

On the GoFundMe page for their Christmas Kindness Fundraiser, a spokesperson for Charlies Pub said:

“The overwhelming response to our video, which poignantly depicted the loneliness some experience during the holidays, has spurred us to extend this narrative of compassion into real-world impact.

“Through this fundraiser, we aim to offer comfort and companionship to those who might otherwise spend Christmas alone.

“We are proud to announce that all funds raised through this initiative will be donated to Age NI, supporting their vital work in assisting the elderly in our community.

“Your donations will play a crucial role in this endeavor. Every contribution will help provide a friendly space, warm meals, drinks, and most importantly, a sense of belonging this festive season.”
