ESB Networks is set to replace 27,000 meters due to fears that many may be faulty, causing the incorrect charging of customers.
The electrical company will remove and test this batch of meters, which were primarily installed in apartment blocks from 2007 onwards.
Customers using these 27,000 have been contacted about the problem, with a specific batch of 17,000 being the primary concern. According to RTÉ.ie, it's estimated that 10% of these meters may be malfunctioning.
Customers who have been overcharged by the company will be refunded in due course.
