This Is Where To Get The Best Bag Of Chips In Every County In Ireland

Alana Laverty

We all love a good chipper, whether we’re sober, drunk or severely hungover.

Chips cure everything – and you should never go too long without them.

But not all chips are created equal – so we’ve tapped into our sources around the country, and compiled a list of the best places to get a chipper in every county in Ireland.

You may not agree with all of them (we’re open to suggestions!) but you’ll definitely be inspired… eat up now!

Antrim – Flash In The Pan

Main Street, Bushmills

These chips taste like more.

So good you’ll be going back for seconds, and thirds.

Armagh – The Galley

Barrack Street, Armagh

No bullshit here – just straight up chips.

All we want, as we want it.

Carlow – Roosters

Market Square, Bagenalstown

Locals describe these as “delicious, cooked-to-perfection chips”.

Can’t ask for more than that.

Cavan – Ms Roma

Main Street, Cavan

Every true Cavan person knows it – a staple feed for every night out, ever.

Clare – Enzo’s

Marine Parade, Lahinch

No better place to stumble into after a few too many.

The only way to sober up after a night on the lash.

Cork – Sorrento

Midleton Street, Cobh

AHHH, you thought we were going to say Lennox’s, didn’t you?

People appeal for Sorrento’s number so frequently in Facebook groups that they screenshotted one comment and put it on the side of their delivery van.

Gas.

And their chips are gorge.

Donegal – Donegal’s Famous Chipper

Upper Main Street, Donegal

No, honestly that’s really their name – just ask any Donegal native.

Derry – Donaghy’s

Clooney Terrace, Derry

Good chips are few and far between in Derry, so thank God for Donaghy’s.

Not only are their chips to die for but their fish is pretty feckin’ tasty too.

Down – Pit-Stop Fast Food

Kilkeel, Down

The name might not inspire confidence, but locals will tell you: these guys serve up one heck of a bag.

Dublin – Cervi

Drury Street, D2

Not a traditional chipper, but an unreal and very special one nonetheless. Think outside the box and you shall be rewarded lads.

(With Leo Burdocks and Beshoffs in a close, tied second place.)

Fermanagh – Bosco’s

The Market Place, Derrylin

Hello boys and girls. You will be 100% satisfied with a bag of chips from Bosco’s.

Galway – Supermac’s

Eyre Square, Galway

Back where it all began. And hands down the best chips in Galway.

No matter what anyone says…

They’re the ones you get in Frank’s.

Kilkenny – Uncle Sams

Main Street, Kilkenny

The atmosphere, the people and most importantly: the chips.

You won’t be disappointed.

Laois – Golden Grill

Leitrim – Giovannis

Townparks, Carrick-On-Shannon

Giovannis are as reliable as it gets when it comes to homemade chips.

Yusssss.

A large portion of chips is just €2 in Angello’s.

We’ll take three please.

James Street, Claremorris

People of Ballina, Castlebar, Westport, etc – bow down to the true county champions. Honestly, how beaut do these chips look.

And for just €6 every Wednesday you can get a full portion of fish and chips. Unreal.

Norio’s have nailed the formula for a bag of chips. The ideal balance of potato and oil.

It’s perfection, really.

It’s all about that ‘Big 4’ sauce here.

You won’t find it anywhere else and it really makes their chips the heavenly meal that they are.

Honestly, these guys know their stuff.

Thick-cut chips fried to perfection, time and time again.

Just what the doctor ordered.

Waterford – Genoa

Grattan Square, Dungarvan

Genoa is famous around the country for its chips ‘n’ ice cream – a highly unusual combo, but one that never disappoints.

Locals are lucky to have it.

Westmeath – Franco’s

Mullingar Road, Castlepollard

Ahhh Franco’s. The best chips around, and always served with a smile.

It doesn’t get much better than that.

Thomas Clarke Place, Wexford Town

In one word: tasty.

A divine bag of chips in a divine town.

Wicklow – Henry & Rose
