First death related to Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland

The first death related to coronavirus has been confirmed in Ireland.

The patient passed away on Wednesday morning at a hospital in the east of the country.

The Irish Times reports that the patient had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since reporting to the hospital with complaints of respiratory difficulties a number of days ago.

It is understood that the patient was elderly although the gender of the patient has not yet been confirmed.

More information will be made available at this evening’s daily press briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Teams.

At the time of writing, there have been 34 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, with the first case being confirmed on February 29.
