A young Irish woman from Bantry, Co. Cork, is currently recovering in a remote Thailand hospital following a “freak quad bike accident.”

A fundraising campaign has been launched by the family and friends of Ciara Twomey (22), to raise much needed funds for her treatment and with the hopes of transferring her back to Ireland.

Ciara, whose injuries have been described as “severe”, is recovering from eye surgery and will need further reconstructive surgery.

The fundraiser says that “this is a difficult, expensive and challenging road ahead for Ciara. We urgently need to raise funds to assist in Ciara’s care, travel and recovery.

“Ciara is a beautiful kind young girl with her whole life ahead of her, she  loved dearly by all and we are devastated that this has happened to our girl.

“Please if you can assist in any small way it would be greatly appreciated by us her family, and friends.”

So far more than 460 people have donated to raise over €20,000 for Ciara’s healthcare costs.
