Garda National Economic Crime Bureau Investigating Car Insurance Scam

katedemolder

Drivers are being warned to watch out for a new car insurance scam that appears to be doing the rounds in Ireland.

It appears that bogus online representatives are offering people fake policies, with well-known companies, for up to €300.

The online deals have left hundreds without cover as the scammers, known as ‘ghost-brokers’ have been posing as middle-men.

It appears that vulnerable young drivers and immigrants are amongst those scammed the most – as those not totally familiar with the market, or those who don’t have money to burn are lured into these tempting offers.

The fraudsters appear to be filling out false reports with the names of their targets and filing them – meaning people think they are insured, while they most certainly are not.

The Garda National Economic Crime Bureau is currently investigating, as they continue to ask road-users to remain vigilant.
