We don't understand how anyone could be so cruel.

We thought that it was pretty much a given that everyone loves dogs but what happened to this Dublin chihuahua makes us seriously wonder about the state of humanity.

Dog owner Kieran Keogh from Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow left his two dogs out his back garden when he went to visit family but tragically only returned home to one.

According to reports, Kieran left Friday morning to visit family in Avoca but returned that evening to find his three-year-old chihuahua missing.

The loving pet owner searched frantically for his little furry friend but had no luck.

Shockingly, he discovered on Saturday morning that the head of his animal had been left outside his back door on the steps.

Our hearts hurt.

Kieran spoke to Wicklownews.net and said he didn't know why anyone would do such a thing. Himself and his partner Andrew were "devastated, the dog was bought for us by a family member as a present".

Gardaí are investigating the horrific incident and calling for anyone with information to come forward.

You can contact the Wicklow Garda station at (0404) 67107.

We sincerely hope whoever did this horrifying act is caught and receives the punishment they deserve.
