Great News For Sporty Students – P.E. Is Now A Leaving Cert Subject

Physical Education will now be available on the Leaving Certificate curriculum.

A total of 80 schools across the country will take part in the roll out of the new subject starting this September. 

The Leaving Certificate Physical Education (LCPE) subject will be examined for the first time in 2020, according to the Irish Independent.

Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, announced the news yesterday, saying: “Physical activity is so important for our overall well-being, not just our physical fitness but for our mental health too.” 

He added: “Participation in sports is also fantastic for developing a person’s confidence and team work skills.”

The subject, which can be taken at both higher and ordinary levels, will be graded on a ‘physical activity project’ and a performance assessment.

LCPE will involve students learning about ethics, fair play, technology, media and sport.
