Historic Kildare Pub Badly Damaged In Overnight Fire

A historic pub in Celbridge Village, Kildare, has been badly damaged by a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Dublin Live reports that the blaze broke out at The Village Inn around 3.35am this morning, and that two fire units, Garda cars and ESB crews remain at the scene

A Garda spokesman confirmed an investigation into the fire is underway, and told Dublin Live:

“Gardaí at Celbridge are investigating a fire at a licensed premises in the town overnight. The incident was reported at 3.35am this morning.

“The scene is currently preserved pending a Garda technical examination.”

In 1709 James Carberry’s Brewery was established on the site where The Village Inn stands today. 

This is the brewery in which it’s understood that Arthur Guinness brewed his first beer.
