Homes Evacuated Following Discovery Of An Explosive Device In Drogheda

A number of houses were evacuated last night following the discovery of an explosive device in a Drogheda pub.

GardaĆ­ were called to the scene around 9pm, and an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team were called to the premises on the Chord Road shortly after, according to the Irish Times.

The defence forces team arrived at approximately 11:40pm, and left the scene around 1:00am.

A defence forces spokesperson said: “Following an assessment of the device, it was made safe at the scene and removed for further examination in a secure military location, where it was found to be viable; the EOD team departed the scene at 01.05am.”

A Garda spokesperson said: “No further information is available at this stage and investigations are ongoing.”
