HSE Warns That There Are Another Two Months Of Flu Ahead

The HSE has warned that the flu outbreak, has yet to peak.

The winter bug has been a huge contributor to the staggering numbers on hospital trolleys. 

Assistant national director for health protection Kevin Kelleher said it could take two months before the current outbreak abates.

We anticipate we still have another one to three weeks of (increased numbers with the flu). Then it will start coming down. So you don’t really see a lessening of the impact for six to eights weeks, because people are still getting it.

But, what’s the difference between a cold and a flu?

According to WebMD, a cold is a milder respiratory illness than the flu. While cold symptoms can make you feel bad for a few days, flu symptoms can make you feel quite ill for a few days to weeks. The flu can also result in serious health problems such as pneumonia and hospitalisations.
