Ireland “likely” to start using EU digital green pass from mid-July

James Fenton

The European Union’s digital green pass is expected to operate in Ireland from mid-July, according to reports this morning.

EU leaders are expected to approve the digital green pass at a summit in Brussels and it’s expected to become operational from June 1. Member states will have six weeks to implement it, and the Irish Times reports that Ireland is “likely to commence the scheme in mid-July.”

The pass will state that the holder has been vaccinated, has had a negative test for Covid-19 or has had Covid-19 in the past six months and should be permitted to enter the country without quarantining.

Meanwhile, guidelines for the hospitality industry over the summer months are expected to be published by Fáilte Ireland later today.
