James Fenton

The Irish Women’s hockey team has qualified for the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time ever.

A 1-0 victory over India in London this afternoon, courtesy of a goal by Anna O’Flanagan, has sealed a place in the last eight for the girls in green.

At the start of the tournament, Ireland were the second lowest-ranked side in the competition and are now the first team to qualify for the quarter final. They had already beaten the United States and will face England in their next match on Sunday.
