It Seems Taxi Fares Are Set To Rise All Over The Country

It appears that taxi fares are set to rise all over the country following a proposal by the National Transport Authority (NTA).

According to The Times Ireland Edition, as much as a 3.5% price may be adding to existing fares in the coming year.

It’s understood that the NTA is looking at bringing up the minimum rate from €3.60 – €3.80, and the premium rate from €4 – €4.20, with the price-per-kilometre increasing by up to 5c.

However, drivers may continue to ask for more than that listed above as The National Private Hire and Taxi Association has voiced their desire for bigger hikes, to help cover the rising cost of doing business.

The group’s Jim Waldron says drivers are being crippled by insurance costs – and expects drivers to call for the reintroduction of a €2 fee to put luggage in the boot.
