Ireland Rugby Coach Joe Schmidt could be in the running for the All Blacks coaching job when current manager Steve Jansen leaves for good.

Sources in the rugby world have hinted that Hansen may be stepping down following the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

According to 98fm, CEO of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Steve Tew, has revealed some of the prime candidates for the job with Steve Jansen’s current assistant, Ian Foster at the top spot.

Speaking to the Guardian, Tew mentioned Schmidt’s capability:

“Joe (Schmidt) is sitting in Ireland and we’d like to have him back. Vern (Cotter) is coaching at a very high level and you wouldn’t rule [Warren Gatland] out either.”

Schmidt is currently under contract with Ireland until after the World Cup in 2019, but what he gets up to then is anyone’s guess.
