Former Republic Of Ireland footballer John Aldridge has come in for criticism online today after repeated comments made about the ‘Manchester Bee’ symbol.
The insect has become an emblem in memory of the victims of last year’s bomb attack in the city and Aldridge has made a series of comments towards people who have adopted it as their profile picture on Twitter.

59-year-old Aldridge, who played 69 times for Ireland between 1986 and 1996, has also been making comments about people’s appearances in other photos…
@ohlort punching above you’re weight with your girl there!!be careful she might fk you off down the road????????

@adamefc1 that bird you’re with must be you’re sister??you couldn’t pull her Honestly!!!if it’s not you’re sister?shell burn you off sooner rather than later????????????????????

The comments appear to have stemmed from Liverpool’s Champions League Final defeat on Saturday and the rivalry between the club and Manchester United as well as the two cities themselves.
Aldridge’s comments have not gone down well in some quarters…
So he’s blocked me but not before he decided to slag my picture off. The picture that’s is dedicated to the victims of the Manchester bombings. Supposed to be an ex professional @Realaldo474 John Aldridge you can delete the tweet but it will be there for ever. pic.twitter.com/3unG99ola9

Blimey John Aldridge is on one. Insulting people personally as well as mocking someone for having for their twitter profile the Manchester bombing tribute icon. ????

John Aldridge being very John Aldridge here. Really doubt he actually has a clue what he’s done, but still. Not a good look. https://t.co/Rz1wUJgTYs
