Here in Ireland, we’ve never made a secret of our love for Katie Taylor. In 2012, she provided us with one of our greatest sporting moments by winning gold at the London Olympics and the humble way in which she carries herself has won her buckets of admiration.
Since the professional career of the Bray boxer has taken off, her star has been rising across the water and beyond, especially since she clinched the WBA lightweight title in Cardiff last month.
Sky Sports have now confirmed they Katie will top their fight bill for the first time, headlining at London’s York Hall on Dec 13. She will put her title on the line against American Jessica McCaskill.

However, supporters of Katie have voiced their concerns that she’s not getting enough respect with the fight taking place on a Wednesday rather then the usual primetime boxing slot of Saturday night.

Katie told Sky Sports News:
“It’s been a great year for me and this is definitely a great end to it, to fight a great fighter. It’s very exciting for me. I expect a tough, tough fight. She’s meant to be a very good opponent and I am expecting a tough challenge.
“I am so excited about headlining my first show as a professional boxer and my mindset will stay the same going into this one. I prepare meticulously for every single fight and this fight is no different, so I can’t wait to go in there and perform.”
Whatever night of the week it is Katie, Ireland will be behind you.
