Kilkenny is the only county in Ireland without a Tesco.

One of the many things we might take for granted is having a Tesco nearby. I can honestly say it’s never crossed my mind how I’ve always been in close proximity to the supermarket, no matter where I’ve lived, and I assumed this was the same for everyone in Ireland.

However, according to Kilkenny Live, Kilkenny is the only county in Ireland currently without a Tesco store at all. Upon further inspection, there is even a Facebook page dedicated to the cause of opening one in the Leinster county, although it has not been active for some time.

Kilkenny locals can rest easy knowing that they are set to get their first Tesco stores very soon.

Kilkenny Live also reported that the Lord Mayor of Kilkenny Joe Malone has confirmed the arrival of not just one, but two Tesco stores in the coming months.

A Tesco Express is set to open in the recently vacated Argos building on High Street, with another much larger supermarket to open on the outskirts of the city.

So not to worry, locals will be whipping out their club-cards and singing “every little helps” in no time.
