Killarney pub quotes famous John Cleese line saying it’s the ‘hope’ that’s killing them

A very challenging time for hospitality workers, it’s the continued uncertainty that worries business owners most.

Anxiously awaiting an update from Cabinet tomorrow, previous disappointments have left owners at Jack C’s Bar in Killarney hesitant as to what to expect. Still busy putting the finishing touches in place to ensure that they’re ready come what may, staff are cautiously optimistic that they’ll be back in business from Monday.

Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, the team accompanied it with a very apt John Cleese quote to sum up how they’re feeling.

Hopefully we’ll be finally left open next Monday.

But after disappointments on 20th July, 10th August and 31st August we’re still waiting on tomorrow’s Cabinet announcement.

“It’s not the despair: I can stand the despair. It’s the HOPE – that’s what’s killing me.” #OpeningTime.’

Meanwhile, in the capital the Licensed Vintners Association (LVA) has called on Government to stick to their word and follow through on their promise to allow wet pubs to reopen. Saying that there has been ‘contradictory messaging’ from NPHET on the matter, LVA officials have warned that singling out non food pubs from other hospitality businesses would do little to restore industry faith in the current Government.
