Liverpool Players Delivered A Message As Gaeilge To Injured Sean Cox Last Night

James Fenton

After a fairly nervy final few minutes, Liverpool eventually got past Roma 7-6 on aggregate in their Champions League semi-final last night.

The two-legged tie wasn’t without incident as security was stepped up in Rome yesterday after Irish Liverpool fan Sean Cox was critically injured in an attack by Roma fans in the English city last week.

The Reds players showed that the Meathman wasn’t far from their minds as they celebrated on the Stadio Olimpico pitch after the final whistle with a flag bearing his name and the words ‘Ní Shiúlfaidh tú i d’aonar go de’, the Irish translation of the club motto ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’

It was a lovely touch from Jurgen Klopp’s men after they reached their first Champions League final in 11 years. Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the showdown in Kiev on May 26.
