Met Eireann has issued two more weather warnings as snow continues to fall across Ireland.

A Status Orange snow-ice warning is now in place for the entire country.

“Extremely low temperatures tonight with severe frost, ice and lying snow,” said the forecaster.

“Lowest temperatures of -2 to -8 degrees, coldest in east Connacht, Leinster and Ulster.

“Slippery paths and treacherous roads also due to snow accumulation and ice.”

The countrywide warning was sent out at 10am this morning and will apply until tomorrow at 10am.

Meanwhile Met Eireann has updated its snow-ice warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Galway, Roscommon and Tipperary.

“Falls of snow continuing today, clearing southwards this evening,” they said.

“Accumulations of 4 to 8 cm with greater totals possible.”

Severe frost and ice is expected to follow the snow, with slippery paths and treacherous roads.

Gardai have warned members of the public not to make any unnecessary journeys and to drive with extreme caution.
