Met Éireann issue 24-hour heavy rain warning to nine counties

Rory Cashin

There is a risk of flooding in parts of the country, as temperatures are set to drop to -3.

Winter has well and truly arrived this week.

Met Éireann have issued a 24-hour heavy rain warning to nine counties, which will implemented from 2pm today (Monday, November 23) to 2pm on Tuesday.

The status yellow rain warning has been issued to Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Cavan, Donegal, Clare, and Kerry, with Met Éireann stating that “Heavy rain later Monday, Monday night and Tuesday may cause some river and localised flooding.”

On top of that, the weather for the rest of the week looks to be taking a major dip in temperatures.

Tuesday night will see temperatures drop to zero degrees, while Wednesday and Thursday night are expected to drop to as low as -3 degrees, with risk of ice, frost, and some dense fog in parts.

Looking beyond that, Met Éireann state that “current indications suggest temperatures will remain colder than normal this weekend with some further frosts.”

Wrap up warm, folks!
