Met Éireann has predicted that “it will be a cold end to 2020”, with frosty nights, wintry showers and the possibility of more snow on the horizon.
A new week may be upon us but it doesn’t sound like the weather is going to let up anytime soon, with Met Éireann predicting that today will bring a mix of rain, hail and other such “wintry” conditions along with it.
According to forecasters:
“Today will be blustery with widespread showers of rain or hail, some may turn wintry especially on higher ground. There is a risk of spot flooding where bands of showers develop, however, there will be intermittent brighter spells also. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees but feeling colder in fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds.”

Going on to give a brief summary for the rest of the week, Met Éireann has confirmed that “it will be a cold end to 2020”.
“There will be some wintry showers with the risk of more persistent rain, sleet and possibly snow during the middle of the week.”
Tuesday and Wednesday will both be cold and frosty with scattered wintry showers and sleet developing in parts of the country – with the potential for snow possible through the midlands and southeast. Temperatures will plummet to -2 degrees on Wednesday night. New Year’s Eve will bring more of the same with forecasters predicting a mix of cold, dry conditions with sunny spells throughout the day.
Two new weather warnings were issued yesterday with the first – a snow and ice warning – in place until early this morning while the second – a wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry – extends until 2pm today.
