We’re in for a freezing couple of days.
Despite this week’s sunny spell, the weather is set to take a turn for the worse this weekend. Releasing their weather forecast for this coming weekend, Met Éireann gave the unwelcome update regarding the predicted cold-snap.
In the release, the state forecaster stated that the sunny conditions enjoyed in the earlier part of the week would continue for the majority of Thursday, but that it will turn somewhat cloudier as the day progresses, with chances of showers in the west and north of the country.

Tonight will be largely dry, but with good chances of patchy rain and drizzle. Temperatures will drop to between 1 and 5 degrees, with a possibility of frost in southern areas. Friday will see light showers feed over the country owing to a moderate northerly breeze, and temperatures rising to between 8 to 11 degrees.
The forecasted chill will begin to set in on Saturday, as a chilly, moderate northeast breeze moves across the country. During the day time, the coldest temperatures of 6 degrees are expected along coastal areas of the Irish Sea.

Met Éireann went on to say that whilst it will be cold and dry during Saturday night, that “there will be good clear spells elsewhere and that will allow some frost to form. Minimum temperatures ranging -2 to +3 degrees, coldest in Connacht and west Ulster”.
Any frost which has occurred over Saturday night should clear on Sunday morning, with a dry day seeing temperatures climb back up to a projected high of 8 degrees.
However, temperatures will fall again Sunday night to lows of -1 degrees, but the state forecaster said that “it will be somewhat less cold along eastern and southern coasts in a moderate southeast breeze”.
The start of next week currently looks mainly dry too, with highs of 9 degrees forecast for both Monday and Tuesday of next week.
