It looks like Santa will be bringing one day of no heavy rain this week…
While most of the country will be getting some heavy rain at some point today (Wednesday, December 23), it does look like it will be easing off over Christmas Eve, and giving us a pretty dry – but also kinda cold – Christmas Day.
However, the respite from the rain will be temporary, as Met Eireann are warning that the rains will be so heavy in places on Saturday, December 26, that it could result in spot flooding.
For Saturday day, they predict the following:
“A very windy day with strong and gusty southwesterly winds with gales or strong gales developing on Atlantic coasts. Persistent rain will extend from the northwest over the country with some heavy falls bringing a risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, coldest in the north.”
And then when it comes to Saturday night:
“Wet and windy to begin but the rain will slowly clear southwards followed by blustery showers, becoming mainly confined to northern and western coastal counties by morning, but with a chance of some wintry showers occurring there. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees in moderating westerly winds.”
Sunday night will be even colder, dropping to -2, while for the week beyond, they tells us that it will be “Remaining very unsettled into next week with rain and showers, breezy at times. Cold too, with some frosty nights.”
So… jumpers AND rain jackets, people!
