It was widely reported in the last few months that Donald Trump was having a lot of trouble trying to get guests to perform at his inauguration.
It was then announced the day before the event that Michael Flatley and his troupe would be performing Lord of the Dance.
Here is a video of the performance:
Plenty of people cracked jokes:

Never thought I’d see Michael Flatley dancing at an orange man’s parade.

And even Riverdance sought to distance themselves from the spectacle:
Just to clear up any confusion folks – #Riverdance will not be performing at the #Inauguration Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance is

Others were quick to point out that despite being a well-known Irish dancer, Flatley is actually American (he’s from Chicago).
Speaking as an Irish woman I would like people to understand Michael Flatley with his fake Irish accent is NOT IRISH. He’s American. https://t.co/uq7HR1hLTb

One fan even wrote Flatley an open letter before the event, asking him to reconsider:
Dear @MichaelFlatley I have written you a small letter. I hope you reconsider what you may do soon. pic.twitter.com/t9w2W524iq
