New Study Proves This Very Common Health Belief Is Actually False

‘Fat but fit’ is the belief that even though someone may be overweight or obese, there are no adverse effects of being overweight – as long as they are otherwise healthy.

It is often said that if other factors such as cholesterol level and blood pressure are under control, then weight isn’t an important issue.

However, University of Birmingham has now claimed that it has disproved this idea.

According to the BBC, the research studied data of over 3.5 million people during the course of 20 years, from 1995 to 2015.

Monitoring people who were obese when they started the study, the experts found that these people were at a higher risk of heart disease, strokes and heart failures than those who were at a healthy weight.

The research has yet to be published and will need to be checked by academics to ensure the standard and procedure of the research is sound.
