What a gig.

The Voice US is getting a new coach, and it’s none other than Ireland’s very own One Direction star Niall Horan.

The American television network NBC announced that Niall would be jumping into one of the red swivel chairs as he takes the music mentor role for the upcoming season.

The Mullingar native will be joining coaches Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and Chance the Rapper on the show to share his expertise in the music industry.

Niall, Kelly and Chance The Rapper will be taking the reigns from John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello who are currently on the show, with Kelly returning to the show after previously working as a coach.

As they join Blake in the lineup, they will be spending his last season with him after a 12-year run as a coach.

Speaking about the new role, Niall said: “I’m excited to be joining this season of The Voice as a coach. I’m looking forward to meeting and mentoring the new crop of talent while we battle it out with the other teams.”

In other Niall Horan news, a documentary all about a trip to Ireland is set to air on Sunday as he and famous pal Lewis Capaldi take a trip across the Emerald Isle.

The documentary by Guinness Ireland was inspired by Niall’s desire to “revisit and reconnect with all that he loves of home; to retrace the origins of the exciting life journey he’s on and to experience the reality of Ireland today”.

The film will follow the three days the musicians spent between the Mullingar Fleadh and their fabled impromptu busk on Dublin’s Grafton Street over the summer.

On their travels, they met world-class guitar maker George Lowden, singer Tolu Makay and Dublin busker, Jacob Koopman.
