‘No questions asked’ – Dundalk restaurant offer free Christmas dinner to those in need for third year running

Sitar Indian Restaurant have been providing the service for the last few years and are back again for 2022.

The Dundalk based restaurant intend to ensure that anyone who is “struggling, homeless, hurting, elderly, shut in, or in any way in need of a meal” is fed on Christmas Day.

The Sitar family will be opening their doors on Christmas Day from 1-4pm to serve free takeaway hot meals, soft drinks and Indian Masala Tea. You can also pick a meal up for a neighbour or someone in your community if they can’t make it out.

In a post on Facebook, the family said that they’ve had a number of people asking if they could volunteer and lend a hand. They’ve said that while they’re grateful and heartened by the amount of people offering to help, it “isn’t feasible” to use everyone – they’ve instead asked for anyone who’s interested in volunteering to find someone who needs a meal and bring them to the restaurant, or to collect a meal and bring it to them.

The free meals will consist of appetisers, mains and sides, there are vegetarian and meat-based options available, and the Sitar family have stressed that “no questions will be asked”. They’ve also requested for the post to be shared far and wide, particularly with those who aren’t on social media and might need a meal on Christmas Day.
