The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) are due to meet today to discuss whether additional Covid-19 restrictions are required.
The Department of Health reported 200 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday and 66 on Sunday, and Acting Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn has said that some people are socialising "recklessly" since restrictions began to ease. NPHET will meet today to discuss the spike in cases and the next actions that need to be taken.
Over the weekend, there was outrage over a
video which emerged on social media, showing a large gathering in a Dublin venue with people apparently flouting social distancing guidelines.
The next review on whether pubs that don't serve food will be allowed to open is due on August 31, with venues across the country calling for "
support not sympathy" from the Government on Saturday. The reopening of schools will also be up for discussion when NPHET meets today.
After NPHET's meeting, The Cabinet will meet to discuss their recommendations.
