Vote counting began across the country at 9am this morning and now – finally – the results are in.
A stunning of 66.4% people in Ireland have voted in favour of repealing the Eighth Amendment, compared to just 33.6% of No voters.
Aside from Donegal, every single county in the country voted in favour of Yes.
In a tweet shortly before the result was announced, Leo Varadkar said that today was a “remarkable day” and that “quiet revolution has taken place, a great act of democracy.”
The official announcement was made at Dublin Castle this afternoon, where crowds gathered to celebrate the historic moment for women’s rights in Ireland
