It’s Official – Yes Has Won And Ireland’s Eighth Amendment Has Been Repealed

Sarah

Vote counting began across the country at 9am this morning and now – finally – the results are in.

A stunning of 66.4% people in Ireland have voted in favour of repealing the Eighth Amendment, compared to just 33.6% of No voters.

Aside from Donegal, every single county in the country voted in favour of Yes.

In a tweet shortly before the result was announced, Leo Varadkar said that today was a “remarkable day” and that “quiet revolution has taken place, a great act of democracy.”

The official announcement was made at Dublin Castle this afternoon, where crowds gathered to celebrate the historic moment for women’s rights in Ireland

Needless to say, the scenes across the nation are going to electric as Repeal campaigners and yes voters take a moment to let the news sink in that they have gotten the result they’ve wished for.
