PIC: Storm “As Strong As Ophelia” To Hit Ireland In Two Weeks Experts Warn

Darragh Berry

Between the pandemonium of the Beast from the East and Storm Emma, we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better summer.

But according to experts, the middle of September could be a rocky time for our little country as it it set to be hit with a storm “as strong as Ophelia”.

Just to give you a reminder of the scale of Ophelia, there was average wind speeds of between 65 and 80km/h, with gusts of 110 to 130km/h.

The destruction that it brought affected all of Ireland but especially the south of the country.

It was the 16th of October, a day that will be hard to forget, and if this storm is to hit, it will come exactly 11 months after Ophelia.

The weather experts said:

“Over the next 14 days, we do not normally see the weird tropical cyclones as strong as #Ophelia form in this part of the Northern Atlantic with a central pressure of 943mb, as the same of the equivalent in Category 4 hurricanes.”

We’ll have to keep an eye on Met Éireann’s weather warnings nearer the time to see if we get that feared red alert.
