An orange weather warning is in place for 15 counties as widespread thunderstorms with frequent lightning is expected this afternoon and evening.
There may also be large amounts of rainfall in a short period of time with spot flooding, Met Éireann has warned.
The warning is in place for Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary and all of Connacht until 11pm tonight.

There is a separate status yellow warning in place for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Wicklow, Donegal, Cork and Kerry until 11pm tonight.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected in those counties by this afternoon and evening as well as large amounts of rainfall and spot flooding.
Dublin, Waterford and Wexford are the only counties that do not currently have a weather warning in place.
